Dallas Image Coach talks Men’s Socks Appeal

Dallas Fashion Consultant Julie Thurburn with Colour IQ talks about Men’s Socks Appeal.

Hey, guys!  What up with your sock collection? With a trend towards bright socks, printed socks, and argyle socks. Are there really ‘rules‘ when it comes to socks? Yes! First, it is important to understand that there are two schools of thought regarding your socks:

  • One option is to match your hemline.
  • The other is to match your shoes.

Formal attire most often centers on the black suit and black shoes so, naturally, black socks are the best option. But in business, there are more pant and shoe colour choices. Here are some of the most common questions I am asked:

  • What if he’s wearing a black shoe with a navy pant?
  • What if he’s wearing a grey shoe with a black pant?
  • What if he’s wearing a brown shoe with a grey pant?

If you’re bored with solids, add some printed socks to your wardrobe. Wear a sock that contains the colour of the pant and the shoe. Keep the wild colours for denim – the darker the dye, the brighter, the wilder, the sock.  It can get confusing and frustrating over having to give so much thought to…of all things…socks. Keep it easy by keeping it consistent with the highest standard while wearing socks with personality.

Do wear over the calf socks in business as leg hair is too much information. Ankle socks are best for sneakers.  No socks with sandals.  Click here for your FREE Top Ten Tips for Men.
