Dallas Fashion Consultant, Julie Thurburn of Colour IQ, gets ready to shake up your tired closet of black and beige.
What’s on your summer fashion list? I hope your fashion ‘Must Have’s’ include COLOUR to your collection! Have you noticed the blues, oranges, pinks, and turquoise shades? So gorgeous to mix with what’s already in your closet. Whether your style is classic or grunge, the fashion world has created multi-colored styles for you to choose from.
What to look for? Animal, graphic or floral prints. Linen and cotton fabrics for work and play. Wide leg pants, sheer silky tops, chunky jewelry, and espadrille wedge sandals.
Do you prefer a style that is typically well fitted? Stretch a bit with a piece or two that gently drapes your frame during those hot summer days. At work, exchange that jacket for a vest. On the weekends, pick a maxi dress that keeps you comfortable and at the top of the style charts.
Are you a romantic? Add some eyelet or lace. Wear an eyelet skirt with a tank top and metallic flats. Add a lace top over a colored cami to your work skirt or suit. It’s hard to beat a little eyelet top with a denim skirt – pair it with some cute espadrilles and say ‘hellooo’ to the weekend!
If you like the relaxed look, bring a tunic top to wear over your swim suit or with your favorite pair of ankle length cotton Capri’s. Or, add a boxy top to your favorite slim cut pant. Don’t forget the linen to keep you cool during those hot days. Yes, a linen suit at work works just fine.
Shake up that solid closet with multi-colored tops or skirts – such an easy and inexpensive way to take your transition wear into summer wear.
Jewelry adds a splash of natural with turquoise earrings, an ebony and horn necklace, or a coral ring.
Coordinate your summer handbag with your light weight fabrics to keep the look well choreographed. What’s in a bag? A little personality – preferably yours! A straw bag brings the beach to the city. Check out this Michael Kors bag. Of course, if you must have leather, make it white and you’ll rarely need to change it.
