Quick! Does your summer bag look and feel different from your winter bag? It should. Make it a little lighter in weight or bolder in color. Your casual one should be made of materials that make it ready to head for the lake or the festival.
Summer just brings out the color in all of us. So go with it as bold color adds a splash to the most serious suit. No doubt you’ve decided on a style or two you’d like to add to your collection from our previous blog? This is the season to have a professional bag, a casual bag, and an evening bag.
Casual summer bags are often made of fabrics like cotton or canvas – and have handles made of rope or bamboo. Natural elements add sensory appeal. This year I bought a black and cream stripped Tommy Hilfiger tote with red patent leather trim and rope handles. Love it! While it’s not a splash of color, it does have a nautical-inspired design which I wanted to add to my collection of solids.
Don’t like changing your bag? Go with the all weather leather – even if it’s animal friendly. What’s new? Exotic skins are IN – snake, ostrich, python. Depending on the dye used, this option can last through til winter. It’s great for an evening bag, too. If you love the skins, you’re gonna love the winter furs!
Dallas designer, Bobby Schandra, bag designer for the popular TV shows Entourage, Vampire Diaries, and Curb Your Enthusiasm offers a wide range of materials and styles. We were able to snag a few at the June market, so click to our Products page to shop from our limited stock. Call me and get $70 off the in-stock bag of your choice.
Summer festivals call for small, brightly colored, easy to carry bags or totes. These pieces are a lot more fun when made with materials like vinyl that will hold up through squeezing crowds, grassy rest stops, boat rides, soda spills and mustard stains. If you prefer canvas, spray on some Scotchguard to protect the fabric. Plastic is no guarantor for longevity as it can crack and stain, plus it can look cheap. Choose wisely!
Recycled materials can make for great themed totes, duffels, and satchels. We ran across Rancho Ojo de Agua bags at the Dallas market and loved the animal themed bags she creates from recycled pet food bags.
